k98 Alcosco bayonet?
Picked this up along with a nice parade belt and two piece Heer buckle. Is this an Alcosco? I think I read that they were the only k98 bayonet with maker mark on it, not sure. Blade has a couple of spots but is in otherwise great shape. Scabbard has a few rust spots. Curious in that there are no serial numbers on either the scabbard or blade, blade has a small Waffenamt with letter D under wing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help,
Brian

Hi !
You have a, so called, "commercial", used in the Police, (notice, the Police acceptance mark upon the spine), made by Alcoso.
"Commercials" were used, f.e., in the RAD, Org. Todt, NSKK, Postal- and Railway Protection, SA-Wehrmannschaften, Volkssturm, HJ, Police, and, in the Waffen-SS.
Best,
R.

Some more discussion here:
http://70.87.163.50/forums/showthrea...ayonets&page=2
Not dress sidearms, they were intended to go on rifles if the organization had them like the SS-VT before they got regular issues of non-commercial weapons from the Wehrmacht (Army) as the W/SS. Or drawn from Wehrmacht stores which could have included the bayonets for organizations that were involved in - or in close contact with combat units in the field etc. With some also delivered as export models, the matter is somewhat involved and time sensitive. PS: The frog is not correct for a combat bayonet. FP

Thanks for the info guys, bought from a non-collector so hard to tell when it was stuck in there. Is there anything special about these or are they treated value wise as an average k98 bayonet?

Worth more than a average military issue piece, there were a heck of a lot of those. These aren't all that common, and it's in good condition too. Nice catch.
