Hello all,
Just wanted to confirm that this one was authentic and didn't have any major issues. Thank you!

Is there a recipient list for that Gau issue?

Badges are numbered and were found in numbered paper packets, but there is no evidence as to whom, when or whether they were ever issued.

Interesting to note that the Organisationsbuch of the NSDAP specifically lists only the silver version whereas the Osthannover is listed in bronze, silver and gold. It seems if it were truly an Ehrenzeichen the Organisationsbuch would list bronze as one of the options.

It is my understanding that this is still considered by some collectors to be a controversial Badge in Grades other than Silver, as some believe this paricular Ehrenzeichen was issued only in Silver grade. However the first type there was only 1000 issued each with an individual issue number regardless of Grade. Hence many believe that authentic examples exists of all three grades Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Hello Richard, I replied to the last post before reading your comments. I fully understand what you say but suffice to say this still remains a very controversial award regarding other possible grades other than Silver. I for one can't find sufficent substantional period information on this award to settle the controversy one way or another.

Martin, I don't think anyone can find any substantial evidence that the bronze grade was authorized as an ehrenzeichen and it may be difficult to find and discern the bronze color on period photos. The are, however, made with the same skill, care and detail as are the silver badges and all are uniquely numbered as if they had some importance. I do find it curious that the Organisationsbuch goes to the trouble of delineating that bronze, silver and gold versions of the Osthannover badge exist but specifically (in parentheses) indicate the version of the Thüringen badge is silver. Ostpreussen, Danzig, Thüringen and the women's Baden badge are all indicated as silver version only. Berlin, men's Baden and Essen are listed as existing in both silver and gold and Osthannover is the only badge listed in bronze, silver and gold. This is a mystery that may not soon be solved.

Sorry, in my original post (since corrected) I meant to say the Osthannover badge not the Ostpreussen.

Hello Richard, I totally agree ........solved no time soon ............... and doesn't that just put the Cat among the Pigeons for a potential speculative Collector/buyer, especailly when a certain Dealer is asking over $1000 for a bronze example............no names mentioned but i someone who affectionally refers to WAF Members as..........' the Girls' ...............
