Default Polizei General's Visor

Dave tipped me off to this, currently for sale on Grenadier. Like any General's visor for any branch, it would need a hands-on for me.

Anyone know the provenance of this piece?

BTW, I have never seen (nor heard of) "Benedict Berlin" (but I see new makers I have never heard of almost every day).

Could be a distributor or tailor...does anybody have an old Berlin phone book or trade publication? I'd post it on the headgear forum...

Provenance would be interesting, anyone? I've never heard of that maker (?) either but I only watch for the occasional police visors.

For comparison, the following are photos of a example recently sold at Hermann Historica:

I saw this cap when it was still available...it is gone now. The only thing I could find on Benedict was a pair of SS officers breeches with their tag in it. The pants look legit, they even have their own brand of buttons. Grenadier said the eagle on the cap is silver and not gold, although it does appear to have a gold tint in the photos. He checked twice and said it was definitely silver.

I also spotted the break in the visor near the cap body. I think the cap is O.K. and at a fair price, so when I inquired again this morning it was gone.

Interesting--appears Benedict was a tailor.

Hat still needs a hands-on.

Dave, thanks for posting the Erel visor. Do you recall what it went for?

This is another erel in the Ulric collection--seems those Polizei generals were frugal--it is also a "Standard"

I believe that name tag was only added to the visor for someones own enjoyment, not orginal. I don't recall exactly what the price ended up at, maybe 4,500 or 5,400 Euro, perhaps another member here watched it until the end?

Benedict is listed in the 1941 Berlin phone directory but not as a tailor. Some sort of sport clothes is abbreviated. Your example looks cut from another use.

Not crazy about the first two visors posted on this thread. The third one looks promising.

This Polizei General visor is currently for sale on the Collector's Guild. Looks good from the photos:

Hard to tell too much from those photos. It definitely has the wrong eagle on it (enlisted 1st pattern rather than officer/general), but that doesn't condemn it.
You really need under the hood shots.
