Default Soviet SSH-39 Helmet help

Forum, I have a 1939 Russian helmet. that has some markings I need help with. There is a metal stamping at the rear of a 5 and what looks like a letter. From what I understand this type with the German type finger liner is the early one. Thanks in advance. Bill

How about posting some more pictures?
In particular maybe a few of these stampings might help...

To me the liner looks somehow post ww2 Czech.

The crossed swords stamp, I think i have seen it somewhere before. Can't remember 100%, but I think it was also post ww2 Czech.

There seems to be many conflicting sites about Russian/Czech helmets. One site says that all of these type helmets with German style leather finger liners are 1939 models, first type. Many say the high rivets are Russian. Then I find others opinions. Is there a site that has pretty accurate information on these helmets? Bill

This helmet is for sure postwar czech .
Those helmets are all over eBay , mostly in nearly unissued or unworn
condition.
Your helmet looks quite salty I have to admit.

Here some pics of one from my collection.

Regards

Bernhard

It's Czech, post WWII. They sell for between $10 and $15.

Sorry.

Jim

Hi Bill,

Bernhard is absolutely true this helmet is postwar Czech.

Please find enclosed for reference some pics of mines;
A ssh39 (with rivets on top) dated 1941 & a ssh40 (with rivets on bottom) dated 1944 which are the common WWII Soviet helmets (with ssh36).
Liner are both very different from M31 German helmet liners.
The liner on your helmet was only used for post war Soviet republics helmets
(Light olive green smooth paint is also very specific to Russian WWII helmets)

Regards, Thierry

Hello Thierry,

Sorry to say your 1944 dated helmet is a post war Russian M40 with fake markings.

Best regards.

Jim

PS. Moderator, I think this thread would be better served in the correct forum.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the info well noted!
All markings are fake or only the square 1944 stamp?
Is it possible to determine the period of this ssh40? (fifties? sixties?)

Thanks & Regards,
Thierry
