Default Kriegsmarine DF 10x80 optics

Just picked these up today. They look to be pretty complete. Even have the light bulb and cord. They have the three letter maker code mlr. Does anyone know what maker that is? Also, is the number at the bottom the serial number 00307? If so, they would be pretty early?? There is also no KM eagle on them, but I hear that they all didn't have it. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jared

Default Ducati BIMAR 10x80

Hi Jared,
Your 20 degree 10x80 was manufactured by the now famous Italian Motorbike producer Ducati. They were made in license for Zeiss between 1943 and 1945. The mlr is the code for Ducati.
Only 450 Were ever delivered to the Kriegsmarine.

Your can read the full report here.

From the ID plate on the right hand side, you will see that a KM Eagle have been overpainted, above the mlr code. After the war, they usually scratched or overpainted the Third Reich Insignias.

Anyway, a beautiful and valuable KM binocular.

Best regards, Tom

You are correct they certainly appear to be the same binos. Perhaps the now replaced/damaged parts on 00307 have been switched from another set which had damaged/missing bits.

A nice write-up of these glasses (in English) is on pg. 355 of Seeger's book.

And here I thought it would take an mlr code to get such prices.

I am impressed, really.
