Baltic cross, real or fake
Hi Gents,
Went trough all treats about the baltinkreuz on this great forum, unfortunately couldn’t find a similar one. Your opinion and comments will be greatly appreciated
Regards
Paul

Unusual and unique and therefore real i think. The wire rivets are very odd, but Weimar did odd things.
Fakers rarely make one off pieces and I think this is a Weimar jewelers' made piece.

Hi McCulloh,
Many thanks for your response. It’s unusual and that’s exactly what I thought, before purchasing, but was quite surprised to see another one listed on ebay from the same seller…
In previous treats some one mention, what many fakes are coming from Hanover, and that’s exactly where my cross came from…
Regards
Paul

ahh-that's different. The number at the bottom gives one pause, as it could easily be someone trying to ape an LDO numbr. However, if there are more than a few of these then I'd stay away. Fakers usually do a series of their wares-this little piece cost somebody some skill at least 10 euros to make.....

Ah-even more interesting-different numbers at the bottom.
Wires were used on issue Silesian eagles.
I wonder.....

Hi,
Sorry, my first impressions of this cross were negative - the screwback device does not look German and the extremely large screwpost is unusual. Combined with the bizarre numbering - and reading on to find out the same seller has more of them - I'd say these are the start of a tricle of good repros.
Some genuine Baltic Crosses & Schlesien Adler did use the folded over pronig attachment method, but when everything else is taken into account on these examples, they just don't look right. Strange, almost engraved looking obverse Fleru d'Lis (sp) design as well imo.
I agree with Don, a lot of his other offerings are things I'd run away from.
Regards
Mike

The numbering and dating is over the top fantasy hype. Pretty much all of the seller's other freikorps pieces are also repros or questionable.

well, there you have it...
A really interesting thread and the sellers' other wares should be catalogued in the imperial repros section. The minefield gets a little thicker....
