What is that uniform ??

yesterday I've got a nice lot containing two dozens of CdV photos.
This one (from 1870's imo) is unknown to me - my first thought was a Post Beamter, but it could be also anything else...

Can you help me with ID this uniform?

To me, it looks like a veteran wearing an old Bavarian general's uniform. The cap has a crown with a wreath around it. The collar embroidery is of the Bavarian style for generals, which was revived during WWI.
