Default Restoration of Hauptmann tunic..

Hello All,

I have aquired this tunic not long ago, and I REALLY need some sound advice on how to improve and take care of this..and I am not expert by any standard.. .

I read a thread on washing or not, and I learned many things from that..but this is a garbadine tunic, and I cannot see this beeing washed, no matter how..?..or am I wrong. I could not find any advice here on cleaning garbadine tunics, if it exsist, please let me know.
Is dry-cleaning the only solution for this tunic..?. As all can see, the tunic is really in need of a good cleaning..if possible..

Next, I "need" to convert this infanterie hauptmann to an Arzt, medical branch. I have ofcourse all the right insigna for this. But how will this be considered..?..ruining the tunic or just converting .?..or is the best conservation just to apply the infanterie collar patches..?..
I am very interested in opinion on this topic..

Alright, here is the pictures..

IMO converting it to something it never was is ruining the tunic and it's history. To convert it properly you would need to remove the shoulder straps which appear to be original to the tunic. A more fitting choice for restoration would be to replace the infantry collar tabs with ones that match the tunic wear and reapply the original eagle you found in the pocket, even though the swastika is worn as it appears to be the one that was originally applied to this tunic. I would also advise against laundering or cleaning the tunic. With the proper care and restoration you could have a nice field officer infantry tunic instead of some humped up medical tunic which it never was. Just my opinion.

Regards,

I think you should only buy new collarpatches and a good looking eagle and let it bee a good old dirty "been there" Infantry tunic

Hello all,

OK, ok..I got it, I will not ruin the tunic, but instead let "him" continue in the infanterie,

I will applie these, that I already have..the picture is not the best, but the backing is dark green..

DAMN, now I still need a tunic without insigna for my arzt..!!. .any have one for sale..?..

MANY thanks for the input, I am not surprised, but it is a pleasure to hear the opinions..

Hans Kristian

Hello,
Thanks for the comment, but this is NOT about money. I have no plans to sell this tunic
