Default Zeiss Dienstglass 6 x 30

Hello everyone,

i have a "Dienstglass" i bought a while ago and would like to know if i got things right while researching it, also wondering what case to look out for since i would like one for it.

Its seems very used and in a rough state ( knob at hinge missing also ) but the optics work fine (to my novice eye).
Carl Zeiss - Jena - Dienstglass - 6 x 30 - 1977522 - H/6400 - WaA 202

I think it is a "Silvamar" lightweight, produced in the end of 1939 from what i could find, would this be a correct assumption?

In regards to the right case for it i'm wondering if Zeiss would likely have shipped these in a case of their own or one from 1 or more different companies.I read bakelite cases came out in 1939 so would be suitable to, although maybe unlikely for this particular one?

Any corrections and/or additional information are greatly appreciated, thanks for having a look!

Hello:
They look okay to me. I have a "BLC" marked pair of Zeiss 6x30's, numbered 2170420 (later war, I suppose). The piece that is missing on your pair is the axle cover, with the "Interpupillary Distance" scale.

Regards,
Kent G.

Default CZ 6x30 #1977520

Hi Olivier V.
a nice set of honest used Dienstglas CZ 6x30 . The appearance of the WaA on the CZ Dienstglas is a plus because it only had a brief appearance in the production range of CZ Dienstglas 6x30. Many of these WaA marked CZ ended up in the Swedish Army contract.
According to production figures from Hans Seeger's "Grey book" - your binoculars were made about July 1939 ,so a black leather case would also be in keeping. I would not be too fussy about getting the "correct case".In 1936 -1938 collectors frequently come across Carl Zeiss / Busch or Hensoldt marked leather cases for 6x30 binoculars ,but after this military contract cases for 6x30 Dienstglas appeared to be generic.
The pictures of CZ 1977520 suggest a black painted finish? The factory finish in July 1939 for your binocular body would have been leatherette. However, a number of Carl Zeiss Dienstglas 6x30 in your serial range are seen today with their leatherette body cover replaced by a really thick black paint. The paint is not gritty.

CZ 1977520 and most German 6x30 Dienstglas binoculars of this period weigh between 364 - 377 grams. This is because light weight alloys were extensively used . In the early to mid 30's Dienstglas 6x30 binoculars used brass extensively (ocular assembly tubes, prism covers and objective lens outer rims)and these early Dienstglas weighed in about 626-700 grams. The CZ Silvamar 6x30 was the commercial brand name for a binocular of the same spec as the Heer contact CZ Dienstglas 6x30. Both would have been made on the same production line with just different stampings on the prism covers.

Red face

Stew is right regarding the WaA markings on those binocular Sweden bought before and under the war.
But not all binos are marked with the WaA stamp.
