Default Lappland 1957

Hello

Here’s a new addition to the collection.
It wasn’t really on my wish list but I had to take it because otherwise I couldn’t buy another shield that I’ll present later.

I know the history of a Lappland shield is much debated and discussed. Maybe this isn’t even a real 57 award given the fact there isn’t an example listed in the official law (Ordensjournal 16/01/1957) . However there is an example in the sales catalogue of Friedrich Sedlatzek (check this link: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=391614).

Every discussion aside, here's the shield. The overall detail is rather weak (eagle head for example) but if you look at the wings you can clearly see the feathers.

I can’t show you the backside because it is well fixed to the cloth. But as far I can see it has broad pins, the pins are pulled through some kind of iron loops. On the back there is some kind of cardboard.

Best regards

stijn

Hi Stijn! As you said, theres already been lots of discussions about the Lappland sheild, wether it was awarded during the war, postwar, or on paper only!
I dont think there is an "official" 57 version, similar to the Ostvolk awards, but they exist anyway as well!!
So' i'm only going to say what i think about the shield in this thread...........
And, i love it I think it looks great, a really cool looking piece!! I think the detailing is fine, and the bronze color looks very nice!!
So wether its correct or not, its a.... from me!!
It would be great if we could find a photo of a vet wearing one that would ruffle a few feathers!!!
Nice one Stijn!!icon_cheers.gif -Nigel

It was forbidden to wear the Lappland shield, so i think we´ll never see such a photo

Everything has been said about the german awards law from 1957 so i only write about what i see here
A very nice looking shield with a great patina and surely well made. As an additionally buy a nice one
