War wound badge question...

Hello,
I have a question on my mind. Just supposse, a soldier won a black wound badge. Then, later he is wounded, again, and won siver wound badge. On the uniform he have to wear both badges or just upper grade badge. I mean to have a silver wound badge mean you have a black one?---
Thanks

Hello Magferran,

I hope I understand your question right.

On the uniform, he has to wear only one - the higher - grade.
To have a silver wound badge, means not automaticly to have the black one.
The silver one was awarded also, if the wound was very bad, for example a lost leg.

Best wishes

Joerg

I thought the gold wound badge was given for amputations resulting in disability. I've never read anywhere that the silver was given for disabilities. I believe you could be awarded the gold wound badge without being awarded the black and silver first...as a single wound resulting in a disabled condition. But to win a silver and not receive the black first, I don't know....?

I may be wrong.

For what I have seen in many Soldbuch, Wehrpass and documents groups I handle, normally a wound that result in amputation gives you the Silver Wound Badge and the EK II, but you can receive the Gold one if you alredy hold the Black Wound Badge, never seen a direct Gold award, several times the silver directly and in one case the Gold due the soldier wore the black previously. Only case of direct gold award was, supposely because never has seen one, death and then your next of kind receive it.

Here's what David Littlejohn has to say on this subject: All military and not excluding civilians wounded in air-raids were eligible. The black version was given for one or two wounds; the silver for three or four; and the gold for five or more. The silver could be confrerred for only one wound if it involved the loss of a hand, foot or eye, or if it resulted in total deafness. In the case of death or total disablity, the gold badge was awarded. It could only be awarded as a result of hostile action, the exception being frost-bite.

Thank you, James and Angel. I never learned enough about the subject to really give an accurate answer. I have learned a little more.

Default WWII Black Wound Badge Real or Fake

I purchased this wound badge from a dealer at The Gun Show. It is in great condition. ( Maybe too great). What concerns me is the clasp for the pin's position on the bottom.

Can someone tell me what they think? Thanks.

It does not resemble any of the BWB fakes I am familiar with. Better photos posted on this page would be helpful.
Cheers,
Henry

War BWB Fake or Real?

So this badge may be real? On another forum someone confirmed it as fake due to the "coke bottle" clasp type. I am still confused. I will take it back to the dealer at the gun show tomorrow and exchange it for two others I was more sure about.

Lol, you dug up an ancient and not in this case thread!

The WB is totally junk from hardware through the design.
Return the award back asap.

I am commenting on the black WB you have pictured here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/1420830...n/photostream/

Chris, is that the badge you looked at?

Henry
