John Hodgin's New Book Announced
I just saw on the Barnes and Noble web site that John Hodgin's new book will be released in February 2008. A little late for Christmas, but I'm sure it will be well worth the wait.
Title: German Paratroopers in North Africa: Tropical Uniforms, Headgear, and Insignia of Fallschirmjager in World War II
Publisher: Schiffer
ISBN: 0764329391
ISBN-13: 9780764329395

Thank you Colonel Cummins. If not in time for Christmas, at least in time for the SOS.
I hope many will find the book of interest. Here is an early Schiffer concept for the cover; this may change a bit before printing.
Regards,
John

Well there are many FJ books i would like to have and maybe will get some of them at a later stage, just like this great looking book John. The FJ battles in tunisia are some of my favourites with the ones in germany/holland in 1944-45 and france/belguim 1944-45,italy 1943-45,russia/eastern front 1941-45.
My dream one would be a book on the FJ fighting in beguim/holland/germany in 1944-45,or maybe just all the fronts they where on in that late war time of 1944-45.

How much is writing?
Well at first i thought the book would be lots of writing aswell and maps, but is it more about the uniforms and pictures of them which i like to of course. And also john,is it more on the tunisian part of nth africa FJ involvement or its even between egypt, libya and tunisia,i like the FJ fighting in tunisia the most though.

There are already scores of books with "writing and maps" on the war in Africa. Why write one more? To my knowledge, there was not one book specifically on tropical Fj uniforms. I felt a book on this topic was needed.
For example, how much information can anyone post here about the tropical jump smock?! To date, everything written in other reference books about the tropical smock is incorrect!
John

I'll buy two copies. One to pant over now and one to save for my golden years.

John,
Do you cover any Soldbuch/wehprass and/or award documents in this book or is mainly equipment/uniforms etc.?
Cheers,
Ian

Hiya John
That helmet looks strangely familiar, just can't seem to put my finger on why...
Congratulations on your up and coming book, hopefully we will be able to get some out here to Australia, assuming that you can find some one to translate them into Aussie for us !
Seriously, I am sure pleased for you, and really am looking forward to getting hold of all of your hard work at long last!
Best wishes mate
Bob

Alan, that is a great photo! Makes one yearn for time travel. In addition to the jump helmets, I'd like a close look at that "Jerry" can, bet it was camo'ed for the desert.
Bob, your helmet does make a nice cover doesn't it! Thanks for all the help with the history on it.
Jacques, see you at an SOS again soon?
David B., thanks for all your help on period photos!
Marco, I hope to meet you someday.
Gentlemen, thanks for all the positive comments. I trust the book will not disappoint.
Best regards,
John
