This B13 belonged to Lt. Gordon Wood of the Troop Carrier Command. He dropped troopers for Market-Garden and Varsity. He was the only surviovor of his flight of three aircraft during Varsity, and his C-46 Commando was hit twice by Flak. The first hit destroyed his port engine and the second did so much damage the aircraft was written off. The landing gear was manually cranked down and locked as the plane landed on an emergency field just back over the Rhine. Everyone was wounded. The overseas stripes are held on with straight pins! He never had them sewn on.
