Hi ced,

Most likely not Australian (design or hardware). Probably not military. Probably European (French would be my first guess). Probably a ladies broach.

Agreed.

The L58 marked screwdisc is as fake as the cross - totally different font and strengthening rib compared to an original Souval disc.

Hi,

Imo at best an unmarked genuine cross with two attempts (90 degrees apart) at an 800 stamp to increase value.

I don't see any patina indications to indicate silver, just normal patina for...

Hi,

For me, the core was used by more than one maker.

I agree, the marking looks more like an 8 than 00. The mark could also be a partial B on it's side.

The vast majority of Imperial EK2...

It appears to be an original zincer, a less common variant, but I don't recall the latest on the maker. I'm sure Norm will provide that sooner or later if no-one else does in the meantime!

Hi,

From the hardware and finish I'd be OK calling that one pre-WW2. I don't have my references handy to ID the maker.

Ronny, great write-up - thanks!

Hans, great additional examples!

Hopefully no-one gets stung by these again as there are some pretty obvious tells.

Hi Klaus,

I agree, a nice original. Re the white powdery effect, it may be the frosted finish degrading or it may be the residue from a cleaning attempt. I'm inclined to think it's the remains of...

Hi James,

I don't think you're in for much good news, sorry.

Hi Charles,

Although not marked Sterling it's most likely a WW2 vintage graduation wing (maybe as late as KW period). The back is flatter than most but the recesses still have the same basic form....

Hi Pierre,

Both appear original and unrepaired. The 1st example is a zinc badge with nice finish. The 2nd badge is a better quality tombak badge but in worn condition (possibly cleaned though)....

Hi,

From the design and finish, it appears to be original and probably a pre-WW2 design. It could date from pre-WW2 (30s) to early WW2. Almost certainly not WW1 or early post WW1 imo.

Hi,

No issues apparent for me from the pics provided (double check for a catch repair though as that area is not depicted well enough). A nice worn tombak original.
