Also on the award document it´s written "KriegERehrenzeichen in Eisen".

I think "Ventel" ist a last name. There were more then one "Ventels" in the shooting club, so there is a I (romanian one) behind the name.

With ink you have to make these distinctive breaks or there will be points on the paper.
With a pencil there is no need for these distinctive breaks.

wikipedia says so, but practically only people born bevor the war could read it. Sure some schools may have teached it, but it was the exception rather.
Some other sources tell that it was taught...
