Intersecting Thomas, the thing that convinced me was the hardware on the rear. The soldering is usually a give away, but it appears that they are getting better.

We use to get a lot of heavily corroded badges coming out of East Germany after the wall fell. Many were in bad condition due to veterans hidding them in walls or basements from the Stasi.

I stand corrected. My apologizes to the poster. The issue that throws as flag for me is that it is not vaulted and the strike quality on the bottom appears very poor.

Early North Korean cloth badges had a lot of variations due to many of them being locally made by a seamstress. Early PLA gear had the same issues.
