With photos of splinter bags being so uncommon, it is interesting to see another. I guess we can assume the photo was taken in 1944.

David, it is very strange. A padded badge but with tremendous wear, which makes it impossible to see the details. I see signs of it having been sewn on. Unlikely it is fake.
