Referring to the end of the tongue : why are most rounded and some pointed? I do not see the pointed ends very often. Is it just a manufacturing variation or is there more to it?

I posted this in the Wehrmacht forum and a member suggested it might have been worn by a bus or trolley conductors. It is for sure the coat of arms for Upper Austria, not an individual town or city.
