Not quite sure what you mean by crude, itís just a close up of the file chased edge .looking closely at the edges around the crown area there are definite regular lines that indicate it was shear cut...

You are correct ,itís the same badge . I covered over the crown for comparative reasons . I have an army version too but this is the better less worn one . I agree that this is certainly a TR period...

I believe it was just crews from airships / zeppelin, both army and marine . It was a post war ,1920 commemorative piece that the recipient had to apply for and then pay for out of his own pocket ....
