Renaissance wax is best, but if not, I would use nothing, a totally dry blade, and wipe down with dry clean cloth on a regular basis.

Looks like a parts piece to me.
From the pix it looks like the scabbard throat lip does not fit flush the the crossguard.
Blade RZM38, doesn't seem to match...

The Horster is a good period one. The scabbard looks like a Eickhorn. Can't tell on the hanger, the portepee is bad.
