+1 to above. The soldiers preferred the earlier insignia and often swapped them out if they could. Not only for walking-out tunics but if back in the homeland for schooling or leave or convalescing...

I recently acquired a '57 version of the Fliegerschutzenabzeichen für Bordfunker und Bordschutzen, or "ROAG" for Radio Operator and Air Gunner in collector parlance.
