They do exist as spare parts. Seen them ( and have some unissued ). Question is which model are you looking for ; hook one ( for early examples ) or simple eyelets ( for typical later war ankle...

Chinstrap is pre war , so originaly belonged to M35 helmet or earlier model. Most probably, someone postwar, added it to helmet.
