Narvik-Krim-Kuban Shields for review

3 Attachment(s)
Have researched these recently-acquired shields and am uncertain as to period originality, so would appreciate feedback and opinions from Forum members, please.

Thanks for looking,

John

1. Narvik. Zinc, non-magnetic, attachment pins missing with spots of post-war glue. May have been a KM piece as traces of faded gold wash remain. No space under the wreath and the bar. The numeral "4" looks OK to me. The area between the eagle's head and wings is open. I am thinking it is a good period piece (possibly a type 4?).

2-3-4 Krim. All three non-magnetic, except for the attachment prongs (where present).

The first(2-top) has a brass-like finish which has a slightly rough to the obverse surface. Attachment prongs are missing.

The second (3-lower left) has a steely-gray look with silvery traces in the eagle's wings. All four attachment prongs present.

The third (4-lower right) also has a steely-gray look and three attachment prongs remain.

5. Kuban. Non-magnetic, bronze finish with 4 magnetic attachment prongs present. The upper vertical line touches the wreath. The detail of the eagle's head is not great but very good for the breast, feathers and wreath. The numeral "1" has a short upstroke. The numeral "4" seems correct to me. However, the top of the letter "A" appears too wide, indicating a fake.

Narvik - original.
Krim (The first(2-top) - original Deumer.
Krim 3,4 - http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=984121
Kuban - i think it's a fake. But Pascal will say that the original. I will not argue.

Hi John,
All of your shields are original, congrats.
The Kuban shield is a different type as the one in the thread about "the best Kuban fake explained". You can't compare the top of the "A" with your with the one in the thread. Your Kuban is in fact the only known zinc Kuban shield. You normally find these complete with backing so it is interesting to see one without any backing. Some of those are marked with the "KWM" mark indicating that these were made by Karl Wurster Markneukirchen but I can't see any markings on yours.
