And this "model" is: m35 or m42? As you can tell I know nothing about these things. Is the ET66 a size designation? I think the 4317 number is a "lot" number? Thanks to all for the advice on preservation. Unless you say otherwise I am going to take a soft brush and the vacuum and remove as much loose mold as I can. Then I will use just water and a rag to try and wash off some of it. Thanks

It is a M40 model and ET is the maker (Eisenhüttenwerk Thale) 66 is the size and 4317 would be the lot number.

I found this on the end of the chin strap. 1937 but I can't make out the rest of it. Would anyone care to assess a value to this helmet? It came out an Estate sale basement and has never been for sale before. Thanks.

Nice helmet, careful cleaning the leather, do not damage further.

Well, I cleaned most of the mold off. I don't know if it hurt the value or not, but at least the little buggers wont be eating up anymore of the leather! After cleaning it I saw the size stamp for the liner; it looks like 56 or 58. Thanks for looking and for further comments.

Looks good a spritz of lysol should kill and remaining mold I've used it on leather boots and ammo pouches with no I'll effects to the leather
